Unitary Discussions
Earlier today, alongside other Northants MPs, I attended a meeting of Leaders and Chief Executives from councils across the county to discuss the ongoing unitary preparations.
The working assumption is that two unitaries – West and North – will be established to replace the current multi-tiered structure of district, borough and county councils.
It is absolutely key that taxpayers get the best possible services whilst delivering on value for money. This is at the heart of what we are all striving to achieve, and it was great to see all elected members working together to get the best outcome.
A number of innovative suggestions were made that will be looked at in more detail, and I am clear I will do what I can to support the transition to unitaries.
The consultation on the unitary proposals is open until Sunday 22nd July, and I would encourage everyone to share their views. You can find more information here.
