Home-Start Manchester Visit

Yesterday I visited Home-Start Manchester to learn more about the outstanding early years services the city offers to new families who are struggling to cope.

As part of my work chairing an Inter-Ministerial Group at the request of the Prime Minister, I met with Shelley Roberts, CEO of Home-Start Manchester, along with Rebecca, a young mum who has been receiving Home-Start support, and her volunteer helper Barbara.  Rebecca shared her story about fleeing domestic abuse, and how the Home-Start support made such a difference to her life.

The importance of early intervention and how you nurture a child in the first 1001 days of life can completely transform life chances.

As part of the visit, Newsnight followed us and I spoke with them about the work we are doing. You can watch on the BBC website.
