Visit to Sponne School

I recently visited Sponne School, meeting with Iain Massey, the Headteacher, to hear how the school is progressing after the long period of Covid restrictions.  Sponne's new science building, funded by Section 106 monies from Persimmon, is progressing after some Covid related delays, and should be ready by Easter. Sponne still has many mobile classrooms and I will be pressing WNC to support the building of new classrooms ahead of receipt of further Section 106 monies.

I was interested to hear about the increasing take up of STEM subjects, particularly among girls.  Maths still has more boys studying the subject at A level but more girls are now studying Biology.  There was not an opportunity to meet students on the day, but I look forward to a return visit soon.

One of the issues I discussed with Iain is the challenge of recruitment.  Many schools in our area are looking for teachers to provide maternity cover or to take on new and interesting roles.  Plenty of opportunities out there too for anyone looking to train for a career in teaching!  Do let me know if I can put you in touch.
