Update on HS2
This week, the Prime Minister announced that HS2 is approved to go ahead.
I know this news will disappoint many of my constituents, but I can assure you that the Prime Minister has taken into account my concerns and those of the local community.
A Minister will be appointed to oversee the project. They will also report to Parliament twice a year to hold HS2 properly to account, which means the very real objections of householders and businesses as well as of the local community, will be addressed and dealt with.
My priority, as it has been for the last ten years will continue to be making sure that affected constituents receive fair compensation and mitigation.
The HS2 Liaison Group which I set up many years ago will continue to give my constituents a coherent and regular way to raise objections and solve problems.
I am still working with a number of constituents who are both directly and indirectly affected by HS2 and I will continue to raise my concerns and hold HS2 to account. I will also be seeking a meeting with the HS2 Minister once they are in post.
