Aryan, South Northamptonshire's Climate Superhero
Aryan from Wootton Park Primary is one of South Northamptonshire’s Climate Superheroes!
As part of the NFU’s Farmnation competition, Aryan designed a smart irrigation system, and at the reception in Parliament, Aryan showed me his prototype model, built from Lego and powered by a mobile phone battery.
His idea would work with a farmer’s existing tractor, infrared cameras and a controlled valve system. Using infrared camera technology and satellite imagery to survey the crops, it looks at the water saturation of the overall crops, sending the imagery to the farmer’s phone/device where the data is transmitted to an app to give instructions to the flow control valve that supplies the water at specific positions where most needed.
On average, farms around the world account for 70% of all water that is consumed annually. Of that 70% used by farmers, 40% is lost to the environment due to poor irrigation systems, evaporation, and overall poor water management.
Congratulations to Aryan on such an innovative idea!
