Update on Chipping Warden Green Tunnel
HS2 are currently carrying out preparatory works for the Chipping Warden Green Tunnel. A green tunnel, or cut-and-cover tunnel, is where a trench is excavated, tunnel structure built, then the land on top of the tunnel is restored so it blends into the landscape.
In preparation for the main construction phase of the Chipping Warden Green Tunnel, HS2 will soon begin receiving deliveries of precast tunnel segments. HGVs will be transporting the parts of the structure on the local road network, and as such, will be closing the southbound carriageway of the A361 on Sunday mornings for 2 hours, subject to consents. It will allow the wide load to safely pass through the narrow sections of highway near Wardington. This will begin from the 15th May.
Construction of the Chipping Warden Green Tunnel is expected to commence this month, and HS2 have confirmed that they expect deliveries to take place Monday to Friday, with approximately 10 - 15 deliveries each day. Construction of the tunnel is expected to be fully complete in 2024.
I understand how frustrating this and the continued disruption from HS2 is to the local community. If you would like me to raise a concern on your behalf with HS2 then please email me on andrea.leadsom.mp@parliament.uk
