Visit to Elizabeth Woodville School
I recently met with a number of year 12 students at Elizabeth Woodville School who are studying Politics, Business, Finance and Sport. Our discussion began about the job of an MP and I explained that in South Northants there are 89,000 constituents to represent and assist with a huge range of the problems and difficulties experienced in our area, from school places to hip operations to visas to driving licences. I explained about the long hours we spend in Parliament voting on new laws, statutory legislation and the role of select committees in scrutinising decisions. The students asked many varied questions – from why I became an MP, to whether HS2 should proceed, to UK fishing rights post Brexit, climate change and getting vehicles with internal combustion engines off the roads!
