Visit to Duston Upper School
Duston Upper School is an impressive looking new build school in South Northants, and I was welcomed by Headteacher Sam Strickland to go and run the gauntlet of about 50 16-18 year olds! Many of the students are studying history and politics, and they put me through my paces with a series of questions about why I wanted to become an MP, campaigning for a party and the journey to becoming elected. They were also interested to know how many pieces of correspondence I receive a year – it is typically around 12,000!
We discussed topics including climate change, free school meals, early years, voting rights for prisoners, child poverty, trans rights and being a woman in politics.
Thank you for having me, and I look forward to welcoming one of your students to my office for a work experience placement later in the summer.
