Visit to the Tamil Historical Society in Kings Sutton
I was recently invited by Gajan Raj of the British Tamil Conservatives to view the future plans of the Tamil Historical Society at Kings Sutton.
It was a great pleasure to meet:
Mr Arumugam - Construction Engineer
Dr George - Architect
Mr Vasanthan - Planning Coordinator
Mr Sangeethan - Board Member
Mr Sunganthkumar - President of Trustees
Mr Skanthavel - Trustee
Mr Sathyaruban - Trustee
Mr Kandiah - Board Member
Gajan gave an introduction to the history of the Tamil Community in the UK and then a presentation of the outline plans for their site, which is set in the beautiful South Northamptonshire countryside near Kings Sutton and Adderbury. The plans include a new community hall, a prayer hall, a private function room, a community café, a community farming initiative, a yoga studio and a woodland walk. We enjoyed delicious traditional food during the presentation!
I then had the pleasure of planting a silver birch tree as part of the Society's plan to plant 11,000 trees.
The Society looks forward to welcoming guests from the surrounding villages to use their facilities when complete and also to seeing local residents at their annual Food Festival in September. This project is an exciting development and I look forward to seeing its progress.
It is an interesting fact that there are are over 500,000 Tamils in the UK and 8% of NHS Doctors – that’s one in twelve - are Tamils. It was a real pleasure to meet this group.
